Fiberboard undercover fail on 2020 Optima

I bought a fiberboard undercarriage cover for my wife's 2020 Optima, and it started dragging after a few days, so I tore off the piece, but now I'm wondering if it's even necessary, and why fiberboard, of all things? What's the point of this thing anyway?

yeah well, it's there for reason. it offers protection to the undercarriage components from dirt or small road debris.

Yeah, that makes sense, I guess the fiberboard's just a cheaper option to get the job done

If your wife had hit something, you'd have to cover the replacement. But if the cover just came off on its own with no dents or scratches then I'd push the dealer to replace it, since it clearly wasnt from an impact. Not sure if it's technically required, but its there for a reason. Good luck.
